There’s a story to tell all over Ireland as you travel from Dublin deep into the gorgeous, ancient landscapes of County Meath. It’s said the mythical High Kings of Ireland once lived here, and over thousands of years have left their footprint as fresh as the day they roamed this land. More than 3 millennium ago Neolithic farmers constructed Four Knocks, meaning cold hills, as a tomb. This amazing site lay undiscovered for 3000 years and was a highly decorated tomb. Four Knocks was constructed in the Celtic heartland of Ireland, an area abundant with ancient tombs and temples and here you can gain exclusive access to this marvel of ancient engineering. After this, as you continue through Ireland’s Ancient East, you'll be taken to one of the countries finest relics, the 10th century Celtic High Cross of Muiredach at Monasterboice. This masterpiece combines Celtic art, Christian symbolism and graphic depictions of old testament biblical tales. Then, continue inland following the River Boyne Valley, a landscape which has played a key role in the ancient and more recent story of the Island of Ireland. Your next stop is elegant Slane Castle and distillery. Relax over lunch in Browne’s bar and snug then join the distillery tour where you can hear about the unique three cask process that makes Slane Irish Whiskey such a unique blend in an equally unique setting. Taste for yourself the flavours of the Boyne Valley before you continue through the next part of the story of Ireland’s Ancient East.
