Zipline / Ropes / Caving in Dublin

If you’re after a bit of adventure around Dublin, forget the usual city stroll and think about heading to the green spaces and hills just outside town for some ropes, ziplines, or caving.

I’d highly recommend checking out the Dublin Mountains for a ropes course that’s both challenging and fun. It’s surprisingly accessible by bus from the city center, so you don’t have to rent a car. The course winds through native oak and pine, and there’s a zipline that gives you a killer view down over the city; on a clear day, Dublin Bay pops into view. Not too far off, there’s also Ireland’s oldest limestone cave system if you want to try caving. It’s a bit of a hidden spot, and you’ll want to book a guided trip to stay safe and get the best out of it.

One thing I’d warn you about is the weather. Even in summer, it can get chilly and damp in the caves or on the zipline platforms, so pack a warm layer and decent shoes. And if you’re nervous about heights, the ropes courses have beginner-friendly lines and staff who make sure you’re set up properly. A day here is a nice break from Dublin’s usual museums and pubs.
