We went to Chez Max as a group of 6 for dinner and got the 3-course set menu. I got the baby octopus, bouef bourguignon, and the crème brûlée. I also tried the escargot as well. To rate my dishes, I would say the baby octopus was average- slightly chewy and lacking a bit of flavour, although the salad that comes with it was nice with the balsamic vinegar. The bouef bourguignon was absolutely bursting with flavour. The base of the stew was rich, the beef was tender and baby potatoes were great. The crème brûlée was good too, what you'd expect- slightly rich and not too sweet. Overall, it's a great place to have delicious French classics.
This is my favourite lunch spot on a warm sunny day. The lunch special plat du jour is great and it's located far enough back from the street that it seems quiet and calm and for a brief moment you can even imagine that you are in Paris as you people-watch. Oooh la la.
The food was good, the service speed was fairly reasonable, and the wine was very enjoyable. However, I mentioned in the booking notes that we were celebrating a birthday, and there was not even a verbal birthday wish from the staff. That was very disappointing and made the experience feel much less thoughtful than expected.
The setting is beautiful, feels so warm. I got the duck for main which was delicious but the absolute star of the show was the crème brûlée which was just outstanding. Very friendly atmosphere too.
A favourite spot, food and atmosphere hard to top. My partner and I have it as a new regular spot since our first visit. Caters well to couples , but also a few small groups enjoying the patio and indoor restaurant. I would consider it for larger group/ family meals also. Patio area is spacious and if you like a bit more space and the outside atmosphere, go for that. Indoors more bustling and a bit louder. Decor very classic french indoors and out. Good wine selection. One little flaw, pre dinner gin and tonic arrived with tonic added, better to let the customer do that. Location, just outside Dublin castle , sheltered by the wall , looking out over Dame St and the bustle ... Really, can't say enough good things about this place. Next to try their lunch. Prices for the quality are excellent, dinner €40 for 2 courses €45 for three.
