Head to Howth on a sunny day, and you’ll see stalls selling crab legs and oysters just off the pier. But you don’t have to leave the city center for a quality catch.

Places like Klaw in Temple Bar serve things like finger-licking lobster rolls and razor clams that feel like a little ocean escape right in the heart of town. Or if you want something a bit more classic, The Fish Shop in Smithfield does exceptional chowder and perfectly fried cod. Pro tip: Dublin’s seafood gets even better from late spring through early autumn when the fishing boats bring in the best hauls.

Don’t overlook the tiny spots off the beaten track, especially in Portobello or around George’s Street. Some of my fondest memories are of dropping into a quiet spot for freshly shucked oysters and a pint. If you’re after something casual but top-notch, you can’t go wrong with a good seafood chowder and some sourdough from any decent local pub. And yes, the Guinness pairs surprisingly well.
