Description
This private tour departs from your hotel in the morning for a two-hour drive to County Tipperary.
Start with the Rock of Cashel, a complex of medieval buildings including a round tower, cathedral, abbey, and tower house dating from the 15th century. This former seat of Munster kings is where Brian Boru was crowned High King in 978, and where St. Patrick is said to have converted a local king. Highlights include Cormac’s Chapel, showcasing 12th-century Romanesque architecture and rare frescoes.
Next, visit Cahir Castle, one of Ireland’s largest castles, largely intact with its 14th-century keep and defenses. Walk along the River Suir and see the Movie Garden, known for films such as The Last Duel, The Tudors, and Excalibur.
End with a guided tour of Swiss Cottage, the thatched home of Lord and Lady Cahir. The cottage features finely decorated rooms, quality period furniture, hand-painted murals, and rare early wallpaper, demonstrating historic rural craftsmanship.
