Description
Step back in time and immerse yourself in the rich, centuries‑old story of ale as you uncover how the Smithwick’s family helped shape and revolutionise the brewing tradition in Ireland. The Masters of Ale Tour invites you on a captivating journey through history, craftsmanship, and sensory exploration, offering a deeper understanding of the heritage behind one of Ireland’s most beloved ales.
Your experience begins with a guided walk through the origins of brewing, tracing the evolution of ale from its earliest forms to the refined styles enjoyed today. Along the way, you’ll discover how the Smithwick’s family, through generations of dedication and innovation, elevated ale‑making to an art form. Through thoughtfully designed sensory touchpoints, you’ll explore the ingredients, aromas, and textures that give each ale its distinctive character.
The heart of the tour is an exclusive tasting masterclass, where you will sample four unique styles of Smithwick’s ale. Led by one of our experts, this session invites you to isolate each of your senses—sight, smell, taste, and touch—to understand how they work together to shape the flavour profile of every pour. You’ll learn to recognise the influence of malt and hops, appreciate subtle flavour notes, and distinguish between different brewing techniques. By the end of the masterclass, you’ll have gained the skills needed to evaluate ale like a professional, earning your certification as a qualified beer taster.
Your journey continues with a hands‑on tutorial on the craft of pouring the perfect pint of Smithwick’s. Guided by your host, you’ll learn the step‑by‑step technique that ensures ideal texture, temperature, and presentation. This ritual, perfected over generations, represents the finishing touch to your mastery of the ale experience.
To commemorate your visit, you’ll take home a beautifully engraved Smithwick’s glass—an elegant keepsake that celebrates your achievement and serves as a lasting reminder of your time at the home of Ireland’s iconic red ale.
The Masters of Ale Tour blends history, storytelling, craftsmanship, and flavour into a single unforgettable experience. Whether you’re a passionate beer enthusiast or simply curious about the world of brewing, this tour offers a rare opportunity to deepen your appreciation of ale and the legacy of the Smithwick’s family.
