Bunsen

Bunsen is a labour of burger love. The concept? Make great burgers, straight-up - without 'gourmet' options. The menu literally fits on the back of a business card: hamburgers and cheeseburgers, fries (3 types), sodas and shakes. Beer is also available.

After over a year of gruelling burger research (trialing 12 prototype bun recipes, testing 50 kinds of cheese, endless tinkering with the mince ratio), Bunsen finally arrived at their version of the classic American hamburger.

Black Aberdeen Angus beef is ground fresh daily to make each burger a juicy, cooked-to-order model of simple tastiness. Buns are soft and sweet-ish. Toppings? Pickle, onion, lettuce, tomato, ketchup, mustard and mayo. That's it.

There are also gluten-free buns for coeliacs and gluten-avoiders in general, and a lettuce-wrapped version for those of the paleo persuasion.

So if you enjoy something uncomplicated when it comes to high-end quality burgers, Bunsen is your only man.
