A little swimmy dream come true. Passing through in a heatwave, who could resist? On street parking is a challenge on a sunny day. I loved that there are different levels of challenge here… a sheltered beach where kids play, an area with the protection of rocks plus a platform, or round to steps that go straight into the chop of the open sea.. or jump off a rock. Despite the sign, many kids doing the latter. Bits of shelter to leave your stuff or change behind. Most people just getting changed in the open. A very chatty place full of people sharing their water joy.
It was soooooo cold to swim here—the coldest water I’ve ever swum in. You have to thoroughly prepare your body before diving in. I thought I was going to die when I first dipped into the water, but after getting used to it, it felt strangely good. You feel like you're floating between the ocean and the sky; it was completely out of this world. It's very easy to get here from Dublin city center by DART, so it’s definitely a must-visit spot for me.
It’s such a lovely spot on a sunny day . Safe when the sea is calm . The people are all buzzing sharing the experience of sea swimming . There is a diving spot up on a large boulder . And it’s deep enough to dive in at high tide . It’s clean and there is plenty of spots to change including a fresh water shower area to rinse off - No life guard though ? Also follow the coastal road 100yards up to find public loos . And also there is another swimming area here -
I went on a Saturday during incoming tide, having taken the DART train from Dublin city center to Sandycove. It was only 30minutes away by DART to this beautiful little swimming spot. I was worried there wouldn't be other swimmers, as a female solo traveler, visiting for the first time. It was a worry for naught as lots of swimmers of all ages were enjoying the beach. The water was calm, with rolling waves that crashed in. The water was cold and refreshing, although I would recommend visiting on a sunny day to warm up between dips. There are no change rooms, but there is a shower to rinse the sea water off. Overall one of my favorite things during my visit to Ireland in May 2026
when I came to Ireland swimming at FortyFoot was an unforgettable experience for me. When you leave the busy city centre of Dublin and arrive in Sandycove, I recommend going to FortyFoot. I remember the sea temperature was around 9 degrees, and I especially recommend swimming on sunny days.It is also one of the symbolic places of warm-hearted and helpful Ireland. People are always connected to their values, and as someone who had the chance to meet them, I send my best regards☘️
