Description
Get out of the city for a day and discover what the Wicklow countryside has to offer. Travel through the picturesque town of Blessington along the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains and pass the manmade Blessington lakes before arriving at Russborough House. Admire the craftsmanship of this paragon of Palladian architecture, said to be the longest house in all of Ireland. Choose between three options for spending your time at Russborough. Either go on a guided tour of the house during which you will see the Sir Alfred Biet art collection, which made history by being plundered numerous times by the famous criminal 'The General.' Or check out an impressive bird of prey display. Or wander the many woodland trails surrounding the property and pit your wits against the garden labyrinth. Drive on to Holywood, once home to the McGurke brothers who emigrated to America and set up a homestead in Callifornia called Holywood after this quaint Wicklow village. Head into the Wicklow Mountains while learning about the fairies of Irish folklore and how the landscape was shaped by the belief in 'the little people.' Stop for photos at the Wicklow Gap where, on a good day, you can see across the Irish Sea all the way to Wales. Travel on to the monastic settlement of Glendalough, located in a beautiful glacial valley with two picturesque lakes. Take two hours to explore on your own, enjoying Glendalough's natural serenity and unique landscape. Make a final stop at Cullen's family farm where you will be treated to a sheep dog demonstration. Arrive back in Dublin at around 5 pm, feeling refreshed after a full day in the countryside.Includes
