Description
Religion has shaped Ireland’s history, particularly the division between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. This themed tour provides historical context on religious and political conflicts while visiting Dublin’s most significant churches and cathedrals.
The 2-hour tour begins outside Christ Church Cathedral, one of Dublin’s two medieval cathedrals, featuring a Gothic-Romanesque facade with over 1,000 years of history. You will then visit St. Audeon’s Church, the oldest parish church in Dublin, to learn about its role during the Irish Confederate Wars.
The tour also includes a visit to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Ireland’s national cathedral. Walk through the adjacent St. Patrick’s Park and hear about the baptism of Ireland’s first Catholics by St. Patrick. The guide takes you to Whitefriar Street Church to see relics of Saint Valentine and Saint Albert inside a 19th-century building designed by George Papworth. The tour concludes outside the Chapel Royal at Dublin Castle.
The 2.5-hour option adds skip-the-line access inside Christ Church Cathedral, allowing you to explore its historic monuments, including Ireland’s oldest secular carvings, the heart of Lorcán Ua Tuathail, and the mummified cat and rat in the crypt.
The 3-hour tour includes skip-the-line entry to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, showcasing its memorials, chivalric chapels, and the Door of Reconciliation story. Learn about the cathedral’s role in Irish culture and history.
